Baluk-Baluk MataasNaKahoy

BAHAY BALUK-BALUK at The Villas by Eco Hotel

According to, the word Balok means: malambot, manipis, at panloob na balát ng itlog o bungangkahoy.  Translated in English, it is a thin membrane next to bark; inside skin of some fruits; or a membrane inside the  shell of an egg.

Located in Mataasnakahoy in Batangas, Eco Hotel’s resort and farm property is a haven of relaxation, meditation and peace with a fantastic view of the Taal lake and picturesque mountain scape. It is a place of calmness and tranquility for those who want to recharge from a busy, hectic lifestyle.

What better way to relax and reward one’s self for hard work is to enjoy the Batangas dishes of our seasoned local chefs at the farm resort’s restaurant outlet. Bahay Baluk Baluk boasts of a number of dishes like the fresh grated coconut lightly burnt toasted with hot coals and  milk squeezed  to be used for this eggplant dish called Kulawo. Kulawo is simple yet divine. Superb over hot, steamed rice paired with  fresh grilled tilapia fish or Binange na Liempo (salt and pepper grilled pork belly).

The “Ulam Sa Palayok” (viands cooked in clay pots) are also best sellers. Soup and viands in clay pots include Binakol na Manok or traditional chicken soup with papaya, coconut water and chili leaves; and Kalderobong Baka Tadyang, a slow braised beef adobo enhanced with liver pate.

The fish entrée’s popular dish is the Pritong Tulingan with Kulawong Puso ng Saging. The best Kangkong Bicol Express this writer has ever tasted is from Bahay Baluk Baluk. It is sautéed water spinach with coconut milk and chilies.

For afternoon snacks, try the traditional Pancit Habhab, a stir-fried noodle dish eaten with Sinamak vinegar. This dish is good for sharing for 2 or even for 3 persons.  The Batangas Lomi, a local noodle soup dish with so much meat and innards and condiments is a winner!

Cap off your meal with Turon sa Latik, a banana fritter drizzled with caramelized coconut cream or with Kakaning Croquettes, crispy rice cakes with latik

The bar and drinks menu has a pretty much good variety of drinks as well as cocktails, local and imported beers, wines and hard drinks.
